Care and Cleaning of Shyrdaks or Ala Giiz:

Hang your felt carpet on a clothes line in the sun, after 2 hours flip carpet and sun for another 2 hours. After sunning beat with a rug-beater or broom-handle to knock the dust out. DO NOT VACUUM!

If a stain occurs, wet the spot with cold soapy water and dab with a sponge or clean rag. A gentle stain remover can be used. Once stain is removed, iron the wet area to prevent mildew. The let dry in sun.

To remove mud stains, first hang on clothes line in the sun and let mud dry. Then with rug-beater or broom-handle, beat dried mud off. The let dry in sun. 

If storing for a season, scatter some mothballs on top of the rug, then roll it up and store in a dry place.

If for some reason you have a moth problem, hang your shyrdak in the sun and spray it with a 1 for 1 mixture of water and vinegar. Then set in sun for 1 day.
